Brit Invasion: Makeup

Since launching her career in 1991 Kate Winslet has racked up numerous awards for her roles on television and on the big screen. As a result she is a seasoned pro when it comes to choosing the perfect makeup for an appearance on the red carpet. Kate Winslet typically wears light makeup so we were thrilled to see her with bold red lips and smokey eyes at the “Titanic 3D” premiere. The neutral colors worked into the smokey eye allow her lips to be center stage.

How to Get Her Look:

Face: Kate’s fresh face and minimal makeup allow her eyes and lips to steal the show.

Start with a clean, moisturized face. Next, apply a layer of foundation with just a dab of concealer to any red spots or discoloration. For a little warmth choose a peach colored blush like Benefit’s Georgia. Apply it to the apples of your cheeks and gently sweep it towards your hairline.

Lips: Her full red lips are easy to replicate if you have the right products

Red lipstick looks best when your lips are smooth and moisturized so exfoliate them with a product like Sara Happ’s Lip Scrub. Next take a lipliner that closely matches the color of your lipstick and use it to line your lips and fill them in. Outlining and filling with a lipliner will keep the edges clean and ensure that color remains even if the lipstick begins to wear off. Finally, a lip brush is key in achieving the perfect pout as it will give you much more control. Use it to carefully apply the lipstick.

Eyes: Kate Winslet has a neutral smokey eye in this picture which can be achieved with just three shades of brown

For an event like this it was important for Kate’s makeup to stay in place all night. Her makeup artist would’ve prepped the lid by applying a primer to increase the staying power of the colors. For the smokey effect a palette like Glominerals’ “Metallic Smoky Eye Kit” has all the colors you’ll need. Take the lightest color and sweep it all over your eyelid from your lash line to your brow bone. Skip the gold color and instead use the light brown shade on the outer half of your lid. Blend the two colors together so the transition is smooth. Next take the dark brown color and apply it directly to the outer corner of your lid. Gently blend it out into the crease. Finally, apply a black kohl liner along the lash line and generously coat your lashes with two coats of mascara.
