Spring means longer days, shorter nights, and more importantly warm weather. Since we’ve been bundled up all winter long, hibernating and possibly putting on the pounds we think now is the perfect time to try out a juice cleanse. You’ll be expected to show off your legs soon enough, so detoxify your body and prep your bod for the warm months ahead.

First things first let’s get you up to speed:

What is a Juice Cleanse?

Well according to Cooler Cleanse it is defined as a short functional program of cutting food intake while upping the supply of vital enzymes and vitamins. This gives the body the time and nutritional support it requires to carry out deeper detoxification and healing than it can on a daily basis. The body sheds excess, creating energy as it restores clarity and radiance.

We are spotlighting four Cleanses that we feel will have you looking and feeling your best.

Beginning with Cooler Cleanse, it was founded by Eric Helms in 1999 in NYC. In 2008 he was approached by friend Salma Hayek who asked him to custom-blend the perfect detoxifying drinks, which include: raw, nutrition-packed juices that would improve her cleanses to make them as effective and enjoyable as possible. He took her up on the challenge and created an assortment of nutritious concoctions from organic, sustainably grown produce. There are five different cleansing programs to choose from: The 3 Day Cooler Cleanse, The 5 Day Cooler Cleanse, Juice for a Day, Raw Cooler, and Healing Cooler. We love The 3 Day Cooler Cleanse because it’s easy to fit into our busy schedule. It’s easy to follow and is a good cleanse to use to get your feet wet with. We especially love Almond Nut Milk!

Next up, we have BluePrint Cleanse, New York Magazine named it “the best juice cleanse” and we have to agree. It is life changing! There are three different cleanses: Renovation Cleanse, which is for beginners, The Foundation Cleanse is what they describe as the “middle of the road” option for those who are somewhat familiar with juice cleanses. The last option is the Excavation Cleanse, and is for those who are extremely conscious of everything they put into their bodies. If a strict cleanse is not your style, BluePrint Juices are now sold individually at any Whole Foods Market.

We couldn’t forget Organic Avenue’s cleanses! Organic Avenue is considered a healthy lifestyle company famous for promoting L.O.V.E (Live Organic Vegan Experience). They also have three cleanses: LOVE easy cleanse designed for beginners and includes juices as well as raw foods. Next, there is LOVE fast cleanse which includes fruit juices, raw soups, plus super food veggie juices that are aimed to detoxify and energize. Lastly, there is the LOVE deep cleanse, which is an all liquid cleanse including super food veggie juices.

Our final cleanse option is Juice Press cleanses, there is a 6 day basic juice cleanse and an 8 day basic juice cleanse. They have cold pressed juices, super food smoothies, raw foods, homemade dehydrated snacks and enzymes and probiotics. There are a variety of options meeting a wide range of needs and preferences. We can’t get enough of their Sweet Potato Pie juice, it is delectable!

So now that you have options get cleansing and make spring your season to shine!

February's GLOSSYBOX

With Fashion Weeks occurring all over the world during the month of February we felt it was only necessary for the theme of our February box to be International. We searched the globe far and wide; from Italy to South Korea and we found products that obtained qualities of luxury and will have you feeling as if you just stepped off the runways of Paris and Milan.

Let’s waste no time and get right into this month’s products:

Nothing says luxury like the fresh smelling scent of Bulgari’s Eau Parfume Thé Blanc $30. Its scent is as elegant and refined as a Bvlgari watch, giving you that insatiable taste of luxury. Don’t hesitate to lather yourself with this rich and creamy Italian crafted soap; it will leave you looking radiantly beautiful.

During the winter months break outs are common. A pimple can really slow down your morning routine, which is why we included Evologie’s eSystem Duo Pack. This eSystem includes an Intensive Blemish Serum that will rid those painful pimples and a Stay Clear Cream that will maintain moisture and reduce breakouts. Stress no more, we have you covered. Pimples, be gone!

To add a fresh face to your nails, we included Nail Rock’s Nail Wrap $8. It has proven difficult for us at GLOSSYBOX to take care of our precious nails. These wraps are easy to use and take no time; your nails will look fashionably painted with trendy patterns and designs.

Your skin is sacred, and it’s important to keep it feeling and looking fresh daily. It’s clear we have a love for MISSHA products and they have done it again with their Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Hydro-Gel Mask $6. The Snail Slime Extract and Baobab Tree Extract work to reconstruct the skin by activating hydration storage of skin while relieving dryness. After just one use your skill will glow incessantly all week long.

We also included some Lisi products to brighten up your eyes. Lisi’s Liquid Line Liquid Eyeliner is perfect for creating a sultry cat eye or for simply lined lids. If you prefer cream liner, we included Lisi’s Cream Eyeliner $10 that is perfect for creating smoked out eyes.

You can’t have eyeliner without shadow, so we were sure to include Da Vinci Cosmetics Shimmer Powder $15. This glitzy shimmer shadow can be worn from day to night and is perfect to give your eyes a bright boost.

We love gloss, if you haven’t already noticed; Lisi’s Sheer Sparkle Lip Gloss adds a touch of sparkle and GLOSS-ifies your lips to their maximum capacity. It’s perfect to wear daily or on that special dinner date.

We hope you enjoyed this month’s International Style box and we can’t wait to see how you use these products to enhance your beautiful faces.

You can now purchase our March Spring Fling box!

Evologie

How did the brand EVOLOGIE® begin?

EVOLOGIE® was born from a father’s love for his daughter. Dr. Robert Nagel, a respected endodontist, wanted to help his daughter deal with monthly blemish breakouts after witnessing the affect it had on her confidence. He consulted with medical physician Dr. Gary Weinberger and cosmetics chemist Richard Brown. Through their combined efforts and extensive research into treatments for acne-related skin problems and post-acne scarring, they discovered the limits and risks associated with current acne treatments. Their research brought them face-to-face with individuals suffering from the confidence crushing, socially crippling impact of these skin problems. This spurred their efforts to find a new, effective, long-term solution to heal blemishes, prevent breakouts and improve the health of the skin.

What is the EVOLOGIE® difference?

EVOLOGIE® Stay Clear products are a natural way to rapidly heal existing pimples and blemishes and prevent new breakouts without drying out your skin. Active ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide can dry and irritate your skin resulting in microscopic cracks allowing bacteria to enter and cause new breakouts. The EVOLOGIE® patent-pending YS3 COMPLEX® delivery system penetrates deep below the skin’s surface where it is needed most to rapidly heal blemishes, hydrate your skin and give it a healthy glow while preventing future breakouts.

What is the science behind the EVOLOGIE® YS3 COMPLEX®?

The EVOLOGIE® YS3 COMPLEX® is a unique trans-epidermal absorption enhancer that penetrates the normal epidermal lipid barrier. The skin has a natural defense barrier to prevent the absorption of most environmental contaminants including topically applied blemish products. The YS3 COMPLEX® effectively penetrates this barrier to deliver a unique combination of non-drying blemish-fighting natural ingredients and antioxidants where the skin can use them most effectively to rapidly heal existing pimples, prevent future breakouts, and hydrate the skin by reducing trans-epidermal water loss. EVOLOGIE® works with your skin, strengthening its ability to naturally heal and protect itself while providing a visible, immediate and sustainable improvement in your skin’s appearance and health.

CLINICAL PROOF

EVOLOGIE® Stay Clear clinically supervised trials involving teens, adults, females, and males of all skin types produced the following results:

98% Immediate reduction in pimple size
97% Reduced inflammation and redness
92% Reduction of new breakouts
97% Smoother, moisturized, healthier skin texture
94% Reduction in appearance of dark spots

The New Fragrance

Pleats Please, the latest fragrance from Issey Miyake, can be described as joyful, feminine, playful, optimistic and full of energy. It’s addictive and effervescent. The fragrance opens with the scent of Nashi, an Asian fruit that is a cross between an apple and a pear followed by luminous peony, sweet pea, cedar, patchouli and sensual vanilla. The name ‘Pleats Please’ was inspired by Mr. Miyake himself. According to Mr. Miyake, “A group of us were trying to come up with a name. For some reason or another, someone shouted – Please Issey! – It was then, that it hit me, and I decided on PLEATS PLEASE. I love coming up with names. I thought about rhythm. “Please” or “to Please.” They are pleats that please!”

Issey Miyake Parfums is a brand known for their scent pleasing fragrances. They wanted to go beyond their existing territory and introduce a new creative shock. They found inspiration for a new perfume in the heart of fashion and their iconic line – Pleats Please. The Pleats Please bottle is surprising, unexpected and yet so obvious: it is directly inspired by Pleats Please fashion, the bottle facets of the famous Bao Bao bag. The bottle stands out with dazzling asymmetric architecture. The top seems to get away from the bottle like a piece of Pleats Please fabric floating in the wind. The outer packaging really plays up the contrasts: the femininity of the imaginary Pleats Please flower, the powerful energy of the colors and the powerful impact of the original fashion logo.

Selecting a fragrance can be quite a challenge; the trick is to choose a scent that reflects your personality or mood. If you already have a fragrance at home, find out which family your fragrance falls into. Test different fragrances and describe to the fragrance associate your likes and dislikes, they should be able to guide you to find your perfect fragrance. The best part about Pleats Please is it can work for anyone looking for a joyful and feminine signature.

The product collection ranges for $40-$92 and includes an Eau de Toilette Spray in two sizes: 1.6 oz and 3.3oz and a Moisturizing Body Lotion in a 5.2 oz tube. The Pleats Please collection will be available exclusively at Nordstrom and Nordstrom.com

Get The Look

The Oscars are this weekend and we are thrilled to see all of the glammed out stars fluttering down the red carpet. Unfortunately, we at GLOSSYBOX did not receive an invitation to attend, but we still plan to celebrate like a nominee with this Oscar winning beauty look.

Since minimalism is on trend this spring we decided to go with an understated Hollywood glam look. So we decided to go soft on the eyes with Kevyn Aucoin’s Essential Eye Shadow Palette; which includes shades of Cream, Warm Brown, Nude Peach, Taupe, and Soft Charcoal. While you can achieve a deep sultry eye with such a palette, we suggest using the cream, warm brown and heavy on the taupe shade to create a naturally beautiful look.

We obviously need some drama— it is the Oscars! Using Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen create a thick Cleopatra lined lid; it’ll make your eyes look mysteriously sexy and since it’s not overpowered by the shadow it adds significant dimension. Don’t forget to glide on Givenchy Phenomen’ Eyes Mascara. We love this mascara because of the volume it gives us with its unique patented round sphere brush. It curls and separates your lashes resulting in a full wide eyed lash look.

Even if you won’t be in Hollywood this weekend, warm weather is on its way (hopefully). However, if you’re anything like me you closely resemble Casper at the moment. Tanning beds are not worth the danger, so get that Venice Beach tan with LORAC’s selfTANtalizer Body Bronzing Gradual Self-Tanner. This will instantly give you a bronzed glow and will also gradually tan your skin if you continue daily use.

Instead of using a matte lipstick we decided to get glitzy with Lisi Cosmetics’ Sheer Sparkle Lip Gloss in Chelsea. It is a vibrant pink shade with loads of sparkle and shine; making your lips oh so hard to resist!

Whether you’ll be cozied up in your house or out with friends viewing the Oscars this Sunday there’s no reason not to look and feel like an award winning celebrity.

Adir Abergel

Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel’s life reads like a Hollywood film. Once a member of the American Ballet Theater in New York City, his tenure was cut short due to an irreversible injury. Although Adir’s dance career was short lived, it helped him hone his artistic eye, a gift that eventually led to a new passion – hairstyling. Relocating to Los Angeles, Adir became acquainted with Arthur Johns, a seminal 70’s hairstylist famous for transforming the locks of leading Hollywood ladies. By the age of 20 Adir was ready to branch out on his own, and quickly became “one to watch” in his field.

Catapulted into the fashion and editorial world, Adir landed work with top publications like Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, V and W. A celebrity clientele soon followed as he continued to work his magic on leading A-listers like Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Garner, Keira Knightley, Rachel McAdams, Sienna Miller, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel. This work has taken him all the way around the world and back, from styling Kate Beckinsale in Cannes to getting Kristen Stewart red carpet ready in Tokyo. Today Adir is of the most sought after hair stylist’s in Hollywood. His loyal celebrity clientele flock to him for his signature style of Undone Glamorous hair. Here he sits down with GLOSSYBOXMag to share some insight on being one of the biggest behind the scenes players working the red carpet.

Q: How did you go about choosing a hairstyle for a celebrity for a major red carpet event?

A: I make sure I listen well to my clients before a job so that I know what they envision. There are a lot of moving parts between the dress, the jewelry, the makeup, the nails – and you need to understand how it should all work together to get the best overall look possible. I think about all these things before I put forward a recommendation for a look. Once I’ve seen the dress I also do research in advance and bring a lot of inspiration and reference photos to share with my clients before the big night.

Q: We love your red carpet look; do you have any secrets for creating that effortless glamorous hair?

A: I believe in every job that is creative, there is a collaborative effort. I want to make sure that hair never wears the woman. She needs to be able to feel like herself so that her confidence can shine through. Any product I use should enhance movement and bounce. Shine is a great way to mimic youthful, healthy hair and volume and texture always makes a look more sexy.

Q: How is celebrity hair styling different than regular hair styling?

A: Sometimes you only have 30 minutes to create an amazing red carpet look that will be seen all over the world. You have to work simultaneously with the stylist and makeup artist to make sure that the look reflects that person’s public identity and takes into account the total picture. You want to make sure when your clients hits that red carpet, she looks and feels her most beautiful. There is a fantasy element too – the look has to be better than anything you would see on any regular day.

Q: What are some of the most memorable red carpet hairstyles that you created?

A: I work with Anne Hathaway a lot and when she hosted the Academy Awards several years ago, I created seven different looks throughout the night. It was unprecedented and intense but really exciting!

I also loved the super modern, sleek ponytail I created for Gwyneth Paltrow last year when wore that white Tom Ford Dress. This year for the Oscars, I am working with Anne again as she is nominated for Les Miserables and also with my dear friend Jen Garner. I am so excited for the looks we will create together!

Q: Do you have any favorite Hollywood hair icons?

A: Brigitte Bardot, One of the sexiest women of the 60’s. Her signature voluminous half-up half-down hairstyle paired with loose waves remains an iconic hairstyle still relevant today.

Grace Kelly, upheld as a standard of beauty, grace, and style. Ultra feminine and glamorous, her slicked-back curls still remain a standout style that continues to be re-interpreted.

Catherine Deneuve, always mysterious and always sultry. She has been the muse of all muses to so many people in the world of fashion and beauty. Her bombshell bedroom hair will always be one of my all time favorite looks.

Q: How would you describe your signature hair? Look?

A: Undone Glamour. My style of hair celebrates the woman and give her a look that she can live in while feeling sexy and confident.

Q: What do you attribute your success as one of the most sought after hair stylists?

A: Love for my art, loyalty, humility and hard work.

Our Favorites

Since nails have become our own personal works of art, we decided to share with you some of our favorite international nail bloggers that have inspired us to get polishing.

It’s true, often times we look to the Parisians for fashion advice, I mean they are notorious for their impeccable taste and high fashion looks. It was only right to choose Parisian nail blogger, Camille, creator of PSHIIIT. She is a self-proclaimed nail polish addict who is constantly creating a variety of trendy nail looks that always leave us in nail envy. We particularly love her nail stamping looks and reviews on nail kits—we can’t wait to give them a try.

For funky nails we look to 21 year old Sammy from South Wales, UK and creator of The Nailasaurus. She gives sound advice on how to get to perfectly polished nails on a budget, and we could not deny our love for her black and gold spiked stud nail look. She has a great deal of other studded looks that pair perfectly with our studded combat boots and sheer blouses!

Every woman tries to stay away from spending money on a professional manicure, but it’s proving difficult for us to get a crisp clean polished nails on our own. Swedish nail blogger, Felineliza, of Alizarine has given us insight on how to paint picture perfect nails. Her nails always look meticulously done; whether they are painted with glitter polish or a single high shine shade they never disappoint. Plus! She ends each of her posts with a Swedish word and its meaning, so her audience can be introduced to a new culture.

We also love nail blogger, Michele, founder of Lacquerized; she lives in The Netherlands not far from Amsterdam and what we like most is that she exposes us to new nail polish brands. She always posts high glittering polishes that bring out the princess in us; always fun to view her creations.

Ending with our final fave, NailXchange, she has spent half her life in Poland and the other half in Canada. She has a great variety of nail stamping looks and the color swatches she uses are always on trend. She also has great tips and tricks on everything from reviving old nail polishes to cleaning up a nail polish spill on your beloved laptop!

If you haven’t started already, get painting and look to these crafty nail bloggers for a kick of motivation.

Backstage For Fall/Winter 2013

After a long fabulous NYFW we are anxious to share with you the top 3 beauty trends that we spotted on the runways.

One of our favorite shows, La Perla, showcased models looking exceptionally sexy in their lingerie complemented by a sultry smokey eye. We expected nothing less from Hourglass Cosmetics; they created soft delicate looking smoky eyes that captivated the runway. It was the necessary touch of romance for La Perla’s impeccable lingerie designs. Another smoky eye that we just couldn’t deny praise was Rafael Cennamo’s over blown smoky eyes mastered by Bobbi Brown. All eyes were dark and done well passed the lid lines. They were accented by gold encrusted brows, making it hard not to love. The theme of opulence was not lost on the audience and left everyone green with envy.

Not only were eyes smoked out this Fashion Week, but we also spotted some thickly lined cat eyes. Particularly at the Monique Lhuillier show, MAC Cosmetics created perfectly fe-lined out lids, so flawless that they closely resembled that of a stealthily striking lioness. Charlotte Ronson’s Fall 2013 collection also took on the thick cat eyes with help of Sara Bria of the Sephora Pro team. They took a less aggressive approach with a medium lined cat eye, offering a softly sophisticated look. Leaving us with a strong element of romance and less sultry sex appeal.

We’ve talked relentlessly about bold red lips however NYFW proved to us that dark vamp lips are the trend to beat. If you don’t believe us, take it from Alice and Olivia’s collection. Stila Cosmetics polished each look off with a deep dark vamp lip, ultimately making the models’ Swiss braided hair glamorized and sexy. Fashion Mogul and designer, Rachel Zoe didn’t miss the chance to implement vamp shaded lips into her collection as well. All other makeup was soft and “barely there” but Maybelline‘s rich lips added drama to her fall line. Not to mention, MAC Cosmetics also donned models in Cyber for Tadashi Shoji‘s runway show.

Spring is not even here and we are already at the edge of our seats for fall! We hope to see you out there rocking vamp lips or sporting a sleek cat eye.

Which of these 3 trends are you most excited to try?
