Q&A With Physique 57

1) What sets the Physique 57 workout program apart from other workout programs such as Yoga or Pilates?

The Physique 57 technique blends full body energizing cardio, fluid barre-based dance exercises and targeted muscle sculpting with specific focus on abs, arms, seat and thighs. The challenging class is broken into 8 to 10 minute intervals that combine sprints, recovery and stretching that target and tone each muscle group without overusing it.  This translates to gorgeous, elongated lean and sculpted muscles.

Instructors are given specific “ingredients” such as time intervals, muscles to work and types of exercises to use in class. They have flexibility to “mix” their own class recipe creatively.  Innovative choreography makes class fun, exciting and different every time and prevents boredom at the barre.

2) What inspired you to develop this type of program?

While working on Wall Street, I became addicted to the Lotte Berk Method.  When the studio abruptly closed its doors on 57th street, I was inspired to create Physique 57. I was in my 30s, had my first child and no longer had time to work out 6 or 7 days a week. I wanted to get the most effective results in less time and to build a business that would allow others to do the same. I sought out Tanya Becker, one of my favorite Lotte Berk instructors and asked if she could develop a technique that would combine cardio with the muscle toning method I had grown to love. Thankfully, she said yes and we’ve been in the business of helping others better themselves for 6 years strong!

3) What does Physique 57 mean — how did that name come about?

By definition, Physique refers to the form, size and definition of a person’s body. When we were building the business, we found space on 57th street and decided to emphasize our method’s efficiency by condensing the most effective class possible into just 57 minutes. The result was Physique 57!

4) Tell us about your book the Physique 57 Solution?

The Physique 57 Solution guides readers through the Physique 57 recommended lifestyle. It focuses on technique form, healthy nutrition and workout programs to help people see rapid results in as few as 8 workouts and stay motivated with positive encouragement, tips and inspiration from Tanya and me.

5) How do you create a “community” feel?

Community is very important to us. We think of Physique 57 as a workout home rather than a workout destination.  Friendly front desk associates greet clients by first name. Clients form friendships and stay motivated by the classroom energy. Instructors offer personalized attention and encouragement. The inspiration extends beyond the studio through our engaging online community; rich with tips and advice that help you commit to staying on the workout wagon.

6) What’s next for Physique 57; any new locations or business ventures?

We’ve got lots of exciting things in the works. They aim to make it easier for clients to transform into the best versions of themselves anytime, anywhere!
