The Sheet Mask Diaries: 7 We’re Loving Right Now

Sheet Masks We Love!

In Korea, where women routinely have about a dozen steps in their skincare routines, sheet masks are de rigueur. But stateside? The sheet mask trend — an instant hit with women-on-the-go seeking quick, customized benefits — is a rising star, alongside a host of other K-beauty offerings (alphabet creams and sleep packs, we’re looking at you).

So back to sheet masks. Touted for their targeted effects (ranging from face plumping and clarifying to brightening and smoothing) at accessible price points, each single-serve treatment allows customers to cherry pick the complexion issues they want to tackle, instantly. According to industry sources, sheet mask sales, which are increasing steadily each year, are expected to reach $336.7 million by 2024.

Feeling overwhelmed by the amount of masks on the market, you’re not alone — but you are in luck. The Glossy beauty team tried out a handful of them to get to the bottom of all the hype.

Here, seven we’re loving.

First up is the Sesha Botanical Hydro Mask, a pre-cut sheet mask, which comes drenched in soothing botanicals like cucumber and aloe, as well as a healthy dose of hyaluronic acid. After using it, our skin felt clean and plumped, not to mention smoother and brighter. We recommend applying the Hydro Mask before prepping for a big event, or if you’re feeling your complexion looks dull. As is with all sheet masks, massage in the excess formula for even more benefits! Another skin-saving sheet mask is Sesha’s Calming Mask, a relaxing gel mask that literally made us feel happier in just 15 minutes. Made of a natural polysaccharide seaweed extract, this refreshing treatment uses a blend of antioxidant and natural botanical extracts to moisturize and tone the skin. Our Take: Use this one right before bed, or during a DIY spa day, with a glass of bubbly in hand.

Next, we tried the Laneige Water Bank Double Gel Soothing Mask, a unique cotton, hydro-gel sheet mask designed to relieve tension and impart a feeling that all was instantly right with the world (we are digging these relaxation side effects). With healthful ingredients like green tea, quinoa, and chamomile extracts and ionized water, it soothes even UV-ravaged skin while absorbing into your face. Another benefit? According to the brand, the formula actually lowers the temperature of your skin — so cool, right? Our Take: This a perfect treatment for post-travel, or if you’re feeling hot and bothered after a jam-packed day of working and commuting.

Eyes are the windows to the soul. (And the first things to go when you’re not giving your face enough love.) Our new fave — and frankly super-fun-to-use — solution? Babor’s Hydro Rx 3D Hydro Gel Eye Pads, which are perfectly shaped to fit into the contours of the eye. Delivering a powerful blend of hyaluronic acid and hexapeptide-8, these left us feeling refreshed, and looking more radiant. Our Take: For a little extra oomph (and dark circle help) we suggest popping the sachets in the fridge for 10 minutes or so before applying, then using right before makeup for a smooth application and dewy all-day finish.

Another eye treatment worth trying comes courtesy of beauty fave Borghese. Their Restorative Eye Sheet Masks, these little beauties promise to revitalize and brighten the entire under eye area in one go. Translation: They’re designed to banish signs of stress and make you look as though you slept a wonderful, and full night’s sleep…for once. They also promise to firm skin, refine its texture (bye bye eye creases), and boost elasticity while building your skin’s moisture barrier on contact and after use. Our Take: Use these before (or after) spending a day in the sun. In addition to delivering results? They. Feel. Great.

And speaking of right-on-time treats, the It’s Real Squeeze Mask by Manuka Honey is a one-size-soothes-all mask that’s literally good to the last drop. We applied post-shower to clean, damp skin and zoned out for 15-20 minutes while the paper mask went to work. We peeled it off and followed the optional tip not to rinse. (Instead, Manuka suggests massaging remnants straight into your face. A great excuse to make a night of treating our skin.) Our face — even the typically squeaky-clean-parched-spots — felt softer right away. In the morning? Smoother and more even than it had been in weeks. Our Take: If you’re seeking a summer skin reset, you’ve come to the right mask. We’ll be using this one on the regular for seasons to come.

Happy masking, Glossies!
