We at GLOSSYBOX know that regardless of what happens, our fellow Glossies are here for us. And what better day to honor each other than August 1st, National Girlfriends’ Day? Here’s a snapshot on how Girlfriends’ Day came to be, and how you can celebrate the occasion with your squad.
Origin of Girlfriends’ Day
According to NationalToday, there’s no official information on who created National Girlfriends’ Day on August 1st. However, the strongest claim seems to stem from Mistress Susan, who runs a luxury wellness website.
She says she created and celebrated the date in 2004 as a chance for gal pals to express their gratitude for one another.
But now that it is official, women across the globe take the time to celebrate their friendships with the women who’ve had their back, applauded their successes, and all in all have been amazing friends throughout their lives.
So, how should you celebrate Girlfriends’ Day? Here’s how a few of our Glossies plan to carpe diem on the holiday.
Treat to Her to a Meal
Embrace your inner love of food with your bestie! Whether you step out for a bite or order in, almost nothing beats sharing a meal with someone you love.
And if ordering in any capacity is off the table, making a meal together is also a fun option!
Got a sweet tooth? Try a few of our staff’s favorite dessert recipes.
Have a Makeover Session
Did you know that the lifespan of the average female friendship is 16 years? That’s a long time! But girls’ nights and sleepovers are fun at any time of the year and at any age.
Have a fun makeover session with your best friend, who’s probably better at giving you feedback on your beauty routine than a mirror.
You can start from skincare, like which cleansers you prefer to use, and work into makeup and hair for a night of perfecting the glow up!
Editor’s Note: Speaking of cleansers, we have a sneak peek product feature in our theme reveal! You and your bestie would love to have it delivered to your doorstep this month, we promise. Don’t forget to subscribe!
