You had a successful career modeling then subsequently transitioned into the beauty space. What was the inspiration behind your line of products? I’ve always been a naturally curious person with an entrepreneurial spirit. I was raised in San Francisco by socially conscious activists and so growing up I knew I wanted to create something that would "do good" in the world. When I was modeling, I found that it was nearly impossible to find any highly natural, healthy, non-toxic makeup that was good for the earth, good for you, and effective and high-performing. I felt like it was my duty to create it myself. When I discovered Argan Oil on a modeling trip, I knew the second I touched it that I had found something magical. It was 100% pure, 100% natural and it changed my skin overnight. It became my main source of inspiration. I wanted everyone I knew to have it and experience it’s liquid gold magic and see that something powerful and effective didn’t need to be full of chemicals or additives. So I started my Argan oil beauty company to prove that it's possible to have beauty products that help you feel good, look good, and do good.
Your products became wildly popular for their Argan oil content. Why has this ingredient been so important? I think it has shown people that beauty and skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. I 100% stand by saying that Argan Oil is the most powerful natural anti-aging miracle moisturizer on the planet. It’s a skin superfood that feeds your skin with nutrients, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E and brings it to life. It’s definitely boosted the skincare category and started an entire revolution around oils. It’s the OG of oils and it will always be the best – pure and simple.
There’s always been an obvious focus and emphasis on both the protection of animals and the environment in your products, where does this concern stem from? Protecting and honoring the planet is something that has always been extremely important to me. My family has always been socially conscious in every aspect of life. Growing up with a family that’s so aware of their impact instilled in me to be conscious of everything I do—especially when it comes to my impact on the environment. When making my line, that was an important factor: creating products that are good for you, while not poorly affecting the environment. The earth is something we all share and we need to love and protect it as best as we can – especially today!
Since Mother’s Day is around the corner and you have two kids…. How do you juggle your full-time business and being a parent? It’s all about balance and creating time. I make sure when I’m not at work, to be fully present with my girls. It’s definitely a juggling act, but family and love come first always. We just had a fun vacation in Hawaii and we are spending the entire summer together on my farm in Pennsylvania. I learn so much from them and I am honestly honored to be their momma.
What’s your favorite part about motherhood? I love watching them come into their own. I can’t even explain how exciting it is to see them explore their curiosities, take risks, and own who they are.
Do you have any advice for moms who want to become entrepreneurs? Dream big and go for it! Our imagination is an entrepreneur's greatest asset so use it. The world needs more dreamers and doers. I believe everyone has a very special gift to offer and I encourage anyone who has the guts to dream, to create our future. I'm here to support... so to all dreamers I say: let's do this!!!
What’s your favorite product from your line and why? My 100% Pure Argan Oil of course! It’s the only product I need. It can be my daily moisturizer, makeup remover, nighttime treatment, hair nourisher, body treatment, cleanser. The uses are endless.
What are three things that you never leave home without? My crystal quartz earrings, my phone, and a lip and cheek color (lately it’s been by Argan Lip Sting in Honey which I use on my lips and cheeks to wake up my complexion).
