“What were the biggest nail trends of the year?”

Lauren reflects back. “In 2018 we saw a lot of moody deep tones on nails,” she said. By moody, we’re talking about the deep blues, purples and reds along with mixed metals like copper, gold and silver Combined with leathery earthy nude polish colors, the nail scene was down with the dark.

“However, a great nude never goes out of style and is classically chic.”

In regard to nail art, Lauren saw it have a moment in 2018. “We are starting to see more studs, jewelry, beads, chains etc. on nails and this is probably not going away, “ she said. “We saw an array of abstract designs, minimal designs and modern designs consisting of lines, dots, negative space, brush strokes, and more!”

Lauren B. Beauty has so many nail colors to choose from! And you can swing by her page on Lookfantastic.com to swipe a few of the colors we mention here!

“What nail trends do you see blowing up in the next few months?”

Keep your eyes peeled for neon to come back, said Lauren. “Bright colors will be popular and a fresh manicure touting these on their own, or in the form of nail art either way will be showstoppers this season.”

Colors like Coachella Valley Sun, Baja Sunrise, and Catalina Cruise come to mind, with the growing popularity of pale bright colors and, of course, the mod look of white nail polish. Sheer neutrals like Buttercream Tiers will also become popular favorites to women on the go for a professional office look.

Buttercream Tiers was actually one of  the nail color our GLOSSIES received in our Easter Eggtravaganza Limited Edition Box!

But that’s not the only fad on the rise, says Lauren. “I think we will see more of the Negative Space manicure.”

If you’re confused by the term, no worries! Nail expert extraordinaire explains the latest LA trend.

“Negative Space is a clear base coat applied onto the nail,  then designs using bold lines, colors on the tips only, words or phrases, elevated versions of the traditional french manicure, or a mix of all these. These are not only on trend, they are also forgiving, since nail growth does not show as easily.”

Another contender for trending is glitter, Lauren speculates. “This year I believe we will see a lot of sparkle and all things glitter. I love combining the negative space manicure by starting with a clear base and then playing with glitter. Especially  using glitter to create a crescent moon at the base, or along one side, or as a design even a simple negative nail with glitter on top. Glitter is a form of texture very appealing on nails.

“I always say nails should be your best accessory, and now we are seeing jewelry combined literally on your fingertips.”

And what about the shape of the nails and nail care? Coffins were super popular, but Lauren believes that practical, natural shapes will be on top this round.  “We will see shapes like medium length ovals and styles that are  clean and easy to achieve,” she said.

“And as clean beauty becomes more and more popular, customers will become more aware of harsh chemicals in nail polish and nail services.”

And she’s right: research has shown consumers are regarding nail polishes with formaldehyde and gel procedures involving using UV lights can increase risks of cancer and weaken your nails over time.

“That’s why my brand, 7 free of-harsh chemicals, vegan and cruelty free, is getting so much attention recently,” says Lauren. “Women want to look and feel beautiful but do not want to compromise their health, and are ready to make changes to feel healthier.”

And we are so happy to be part of that change with her. Because it’s not just the final product of your fab manicure, but the entire step and life cycle of your nails you should consider the next time you head to the salon or stay in for a self-love day.

Self-love the healthy way with start to finish nail care, and we can’t wait to see your manis and pedis soon!
